Priorities

Dana’s priorities for BART are your priorities for BART. Whether you ride BART regularly or not, BART belongs to YOU. We all have a vested interest in making it safer, cleaner, more functional, reliable, and financially sound.

As our next BART Director, Dana will:

  • Prioritize Safety and Cleanliness. Riding BART should be a safe and pleasant experience for all riders. Dana knows that with improved safety and cleanliness, more riders will return to BART, strengthening its fiscal solvency. As our next BART Director, Dana wants to expand BART’s Ambassador Program, connecting unhoused people with services, and ensure that BART police, monitors and ambassadors are fully staffed. More regular patrols on the platforms will reduce illicit and criminal behavior and ensure the safety of BART employees. Building trust between BART police and the communities they serve is a top priority of Dana’s.
  • Keep the Bathrooms Clean and Open! “If you gotta go, you gotta go.” Dana strongly supports the bathroom monitor program and will work to ensure that all bathrooms remain open, clean and safe throughout the system.
  • Use Her Expertise to Secure More Funding for BART. We need experts at the helm. A professional transportation grant writer, Dana is uniquely qualified to help identify and secure regional, state, and federal funding that doesn’t add strain to our local taxpayers.
  • Work to Restore BART Ridership. Dana is a candidate with experience securing transportation funding and reviewing large transportation budgets. She knows what it takes to improve ridership and improve BART’s financial health.
  • Ensure that Taxpayer Dollars are Efficiently Spent. As we work to avoid the upcoming fiscal cliff, I will be a watchdog to ensure that BART is accountable and your taxpayer dollars are efficiently spent and focused on the best possible rider experience.
  • Improve Reliability. “BART… and you’re there” is the slogan of BART. I will make sure the system lives up to it. People depend on BART to get to work, school, medical appointments, and special events. They deserve trains that run on time and are seamlessly connected to other transportation systems. We deserve to be a world-class transportation system and a model for others.
  • Expand Small Business Partnerships. BART should be an anchor of the community. A big part of Dana’s job at the San Francisco International Airport was connecting small businesses with opportunities to serve passengers, and attracting exciting new shops and restaurant ventures into SFO’s terminals. A lot more can be done to enhance the passenger experience at BART while helping small businesses and building a more diverse revenue base for the system. Dana will work with business associations, nonprofits and farmer’s markets to create economic opportunity and host more community events on BART property, which builds community and creates jobs.
  • Embrace New Housing Opportunities. The Bay Area is facing a housing affordability crisis, and BART is part of the solution. Dana supports transit-oriented development and will embrace new housing, especially affordable, at and near BART stations.
  • Amplify Your Voice! Dana is a transportation professional who has been a commuter, advocate, mentor and parent and she will amplify your voice so that BART is responsive to the needs of riders and safety of employees. As Vice Chair of BART’s Police Community Review Board she promotes policies that ensure fairness and transparency in addressing complaints against officers and enhances the safety and rights of passengers. She will continue to amplify your voice.
